Vamana is an induced vomiting Panchakarma procedure. Panchakarma is the ultimate healing therapy for detoxifying the mind and the body. It helps in strengthening the immune system, eliminates accumulated toxins from the body, improves metabolic rate and digestive fire, and brings balance to the
doshas (the energetic principles of the body and mind) and longevity. Vamana is one of the five main therapeutic procedures of Panchakarma therapy for detoxifying the mind and the body. Literally, Vamana therapy means to induce therapeutic vomiting to expel out the vitiated gastric contents of the stomach through oral route, which is indicated for the purification of Urdhva Bhaga (upper part) of the body, in short, Emesis is a forceful expulsion of gastric content to the exterior via oral cavity resulting from the coordinated action of the muscles of the stomach, esophagus and abdominal wall.
Vamana is usually advised to people who are suffering from:
• Respiratory disorders
• Lifestyle disorders like obesity, diabetes, hypothyroidism, etc.
• Digestive system disorders like indigestion, Diarrhea, Dysentery, Anorexia.

Prior to emesis therapy, external oileation (full body massage) and internal oileation (intake of medicated oil or ghrita) is administered for 3, 5, or maximum of 7 days. On the day of Vamana karma, after the full body massage followed by swedana (Steam), the patient is asked to take Yavagu or milk up to the full stomach.
Vamaka yoga (emetic herbal formulation) combination of Madanaphala, vacha, Saindhav lavana (rock salt), Madhu(Honey) is administered to the patient under the supervision of our certified highly experienced practitioners at Ayur Healthcare. After administration of an emetic drug, the patient should be observed carefully for 45 minutes. When salivation starts, the patient is instructed to sit in a comfortable position. For a collection of vomitus, a vessel should be kept ready in front of the patient. The patient is advised to vomit without much straining. Gentle massage of the back from below to upward direction should be given during the act of Vamana karma. And, Our Ayurvedic Practitioners will look for certain specific signs and symptoms of the patient during the emesis process, and once achieved that stage the vomiting will be stopped. After Vaman, given herbal vapor inhalation to wipe out the remaining toxic content accumulated in the upper body.
The next 7 days after Vamana the patient had to follow a strict and simple diet of moong soup (green gram), rice gruel, etc for this one week to get the best results of Vamana and to avoid any ill effects.
