Dhara / Pizhichil / Herbal Liquid Stream

Dhara treatments are an effective form of relaxation therapies in the field of Ayurveda science. Dhara is a Sanskrit word meaning stream. According to the meaning, the treatment involves creating streams of herbal oils, medicated milk, or buttermilk on various body parts.
Sarvanga Dhara/ Whole Body Medicated Oil, Liquid Stream.

The word Sarvanga Dhara is a word comprising two terms, Sarvanga means the full body and Dhara suggests stream pouring of medicated liquids.
Thus Sarvanga Dhara means stream pouring of lukewarm medicated liquids over the whole body.

Types of Dhara & Liquids used in:-

Taila Dhara – In this medicated oils are used for stream pouring. It is highly useful in treating Vata disorders like neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders, diseases like osteoarthritis, myalgia, fibromyalgia, paralysis, etc. Sneha-Dhara is a very effective degenerative condition. This treatment provides relief from muscular pains, joint stiffness, and skin diseases.

Ksheeradhara– Best for the summer, this form of Ayurvedic treatment involves pouring medicated milk over the head and body. It is a very effective therapy for people suffering from Vata and Pitta dosha aggravation, headaches, insomnia, and stress. This moisturizing treatment relieves anxiety and tension and gives a healthy glow to the skin.

Kashaya Dhara – Stream pouring of herbal medicated decoctions. This is highly beneficial in diseases originating because of aggravated Vata and Kapha. It also combats ama (cellular toxins caused due to impaired metabolism tending to block the life energy force, cellular functions, and channels of the body).

Whole Body Takra Dhara – Medicated buttermilk is used in this therapy. This treatment helps to calm the individual down. It relieves insomnia, depression, and other stress-related problems.

Treatment method- 
Dhara begins with the herbal oil head and shoulder body massage which relaxes the muscles and harmonizes the energy of the body, preparing it for the procedure. Then warm oil is poured into a copper vessel on a massage rack, from where a continuous stream poured over the entire body. All this time the Ayurvedic practitioner ensures that the oil temperature remains constant. The whole treatment takes about 60 minutes, during which you can even immerse yourself within the healthiest and restorative sleep.
